Truth of adult vaccination in patients with lung problems!

For adults with chronic lung conditions like Asthma, COPD, and emphysema, ILD , vaccination is a crucial element of preventative care. These conditions make the airways more vulnerable to infection, and contracting a respiratory illness can lead to severe complications, including acute exacerbations, hospitalization, and potential mortality. Vaccines effectively train the immune system to fight off common, dangerous pathogens, therefore reducing the risk of severe illness.

Key recommended vaccines often include:
* Influenza (Flu) Vaccine: Recommended annually, as the flu can severely worsen underlying lung disease.
* Pneumococcal Vaccine: Protects against bacteria that cause pneumonia, a major risk for lung patients. A specific schedule (PCV or PPSV23) is usually followed based on age and previous vaccination history.  * COVID-19 Vaccine: Staying up-to-date is vital to protect against severe illness and hospitalization.
  * Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccine: Recommended for older adults and those with chronic lung disease to prevent severe RSV illness.
  * Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) Vaccine: A single dose is usually given in adulthood, with Td boosters every 10 years, as whooping cough (pertussis) can be very dangerous.
* Herpes Zoster vaccine : 2 dosages are recommended with 2 months of gap between 2 injections.
Consult your pulmonologist and get vaccinated if you are having any lung problem.
